Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary, Nawadankulama Bird Sanctuary, Mannar Salterns & Lakes, Wilpattu National Park, Sigiriya Bird Sanctuary, Udawatta Kele Sanctuary, Victoria Park of Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains National Park, Kitulgala Makandawa Rain Forest, Yala National Park, Bundala National Park and some of the highly kept secret bird watching sites for endemic birds of Sri Lanka of our bird watching guides which are not in your regular bird watching guide books.

Itinerary

1

Day 01

  • Arrival in Colombo International Airport and meet with our representative
  • Transfer to Negombo – 20 minutes drive approximately
  • Overnight stay in Negombo

Day 02

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Morning bird watching in Muthurajawela Wetlands
  • Transfer to Anawilundawa Wetlands – 2 hours drive approximately
  • Afternoon bird watching in Anawilundawa Wetlands which is one of the two most important birding sites in Sri Lanka named by RAMSAR. In Anawilunda Wetlands you would be able to see birds types such as Cormorants, ducks, egrets, herons, storks, eagles, terns, swallows, swifts, kingfishers and other resident birds
  • Overnight stay in Mannar

Day 03

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Morning bird watching in Mannar beach and lagoon area where you would be able to see birds such as Waders, migratory bird, resident birds, Terns, Ducks, Gulls, Flamingos during the migratory season, Frigate birds, boobies, eagles, cormorants, snipers, plovers, sand pipers, noddies and skuas
  • Transfer to Wilpattu National Park – 2 to 3 hours drive approximately
  • On the way visit Thanthirimale ruins and surrounding lakes for bird watching (Water birds and resident birds)
  • Overnight stay in Wilpattu

Day 04

  • Full day safari in Wilpattu National Park from 6 AM to 6 PM to see 8 endemic birds, eagles, water birds and other resident birds (Picnic meals will be served during the safari)
  • Overnight stay in Wilpattu

Day 05

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Transfer to Sigiriya – 2 ½ hours drive approximately
  • On the way see some birds near lakes of Kekirawa (Water birds and resident birds)
  • Afternoon bird watching in Sigiriya Sanctuary to see Endemic birds, migratory and resident birds, eagles, water birds, swifts, swallows and Falcons
  • Late evening walk in Habarana Jungle to see nocturnal bird species such as Owls and Nights Jars. Optionally visit Popem’s Arboretum in Dambulla to see Slender Loris.
  • Overnight stay in Habarana/Dambulla

Day 06

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • On the way at Kandy have a walk in Peradeniya Botanical Garden to see Parrots, Pigeons, Woodpeckers, barbets, Bul buls, Warblers, sunbirds, flower peckers, Ioras and fly catchers
  • In Kandy walk in Udawattakale Sanctuary in Kandy for bird watching. You can see birds such as Parrots, Pigeons, Woodpeckers, barbets, Bul buls, Warblers, sunbirds, flower peckers and fly catchers
  • Transfer to Kitulgala – 2 ½ hours drive approximately
  • Overnight stay in Kithulgala

Day 07

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Morning bird watching in Belilena pre historic cave area to see birds such as Munias, Flower peckkers, sunbirds, fly catchers, Mynas, Babblers, Monarchs, Wabblers, Prinias, Bul Buls, Wagtails, Drongos, Orioles, Leafbirds, Woodpeckers, barbets, Pigeons, Nuthatchs, Hornbills and Coucals
  • After that Bird watching in Makandawa Rain Forest in Kitulgala to see birds such as Munias, Flower peckkers, sunbirds, fly catchers, Mynas, Babblers, Monarchs, Wabblers, Prinias, Bul Buls, Wagtails, Drongos, Orioles, Leafbirds, Woodpeckers, barbets, Pigeons, Nuthatchs, Hornbills, Owls and Coucals
  • Transfer to Nuwara Eliya – 2 hours drive approximately
  • On the way bird watching walk in Victoria Park Nuwara Eliya to see birds such as Parrots, Pigeons, sunbirds, flower peckers, fly catchers, Chats, Thrushers, Wabblers, and Wagtails
  • Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya

Day 08

  • Transfer to Horton Plains National Park at 5 AM – 1 ½ hours drive approximately
  • Early morning bird watching walk in Horton Plains National Park to see bird such as Pigeons, Parrots, Barbets, Minivets, Cisticolas, Priniyas, Green Wabblers, Thrushes, Chats, Flycatchers, sunbirds, flower peckers, bul buls and White Eyes (Picnic breakfast will be provided during the walk)
  • Transfer back to Nuwara Eliya – 1 ½ hours drive approximately
  • Afternoon bird watching walk in Hakgala Botanical Garden to see birds such as Mainas, Bul buls, Pigeons, Parrots, Woodpeckers, Shrikes, Blue Magpie, Drongos, Prinias, Warblers, Mynas, Thrushes and flycatchers
  • Transfer to Tissamaharama – 4 hours drive approximately
  • Overnight stay in Tissamaharama/Yala

Day 09

  • Morning safari in Bundala National Park from 6 to 10 AM to see birds such as Terns, Gulls, Ducks, Snipers, Cormorants, Egrets, Quails, Flamingos in the season, Storks, Ibises, Bitterns, Herrons, Pelicans, Eagles, Kites, Ausprey, Eagles, Crakes, Rails, Water cocks, Plovers, Lapwings, Snipers, Godwits, Curlews, Sand pipers, Stints, Pigeons, Cuckoos, Malkohas, Cuckoos, Swifts, Swallows, Bee Eaters, King fishers, Shrikes, Pipits, Larks, Prinias, Tailorbirds, Fantail, Starlings, Weavers and Munias (A picnic breakfast will be served during the safari)
  • Afternoon bird watching walk near Tissa Lake and Debarawewa Lake to see birds such as Terns, Ducks, Cormorants, Egrets, Storks, Ibises, Bitterns, Herrons, Pelicans, Eagles, Kites, Lapwings, Sand pipers, Pigeons, Cuckoos, Malkohas, Swifts, Swallows, Bee Eaters, King fishers, Shrikes, Pipits, Larks, Prinias, Tailorbirds, Fantail, Starlings, Munias, Jacana and Owls
  • Transfer to Sinharaja Rain Forest near Kudawa entrance – 3 to 3.5 hours drive approximately
  • Overnight stay in Sinharaja

  • Early breakfast at the hotel
  • Full day bird watching in Sinharaja Rain Forest in search for birds such as Munias, Flower peckkers, sunbirds, fly catchers, Mynas, Babblers, Monarchs, Wabblers, Prinias, Bul Buls, Wagtails, Drongos, Orioles, Leafbirds, Woodpeckers, barbets, Pigeons, Nuthatchs, Trogans, Hornbills, Blue Magpie, Frogmouths, and Coucals
  • Walk for bird watching in a bordering village of Sinharaja Rain Forest to see birds such as Munias, Flower peckkers, sunbirds, fly catchers, Mynas, Babblers, Monarchs, Wabblers, Prinias, Bul Buls, Wagtails, Drongos, Orioles, Leafbirds, Woodpeckers, barbets, Pigeons, Nuthatchs, Hornbills, Blue Magpie, Owls and Coucals
  • Overnight in Sinharaja
